Georg Böhlen
Family status: married, 3 children
Occupation: Software consultant and developer
I was born July, 21th 1961 in Hagen
www.hagen.de
My great-grand uncle was a famous writer of a village called Dössel,

in The Bio-Bibliographic Kirchenlexikon by Traugott Bautz:

where also my father, Johannes Böhlen, has his origins.

My mother, Irene Böhlen, comes from the nearby village of Scherfede. If you wanted to go the on vacation you could find good lodging in the district of Hardehausen.

From fifth grade until the German Abitur, I went to the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium, Hagen.
www.thg-hagen.info
At computer club at school, I had my first experiences with computers. Back then, we were actually still punching cards that were processed at the computing center of the University of Hagen.
www.fernuni-hagen.de
In those days I did all my programming in ALGOL-W.
A lot of my spare time I spent in the well assorted music department of Hagen's public library.

This time was followed by a phase of trial and error.
First I successfully completed an internship as a fitter in the training workshop of the former Krupp steel plants.

The first job after school brought me as a packer into the filter trade;

and at the University of Dortmund I studied mechanical engineering. However, that only lasted for one semester.

Obviously my artistic inclinations were stronger: An internship at the photo laboratory Bochhammer followed (no link available)
after which I passed the admission exam at Lette Association, a school for photo design.

also see www.lette-verein.de/fgm/frameset.html
But I did not take any classes there: instead, I enrolled at Professional College of Cologne, majoring in photo engineering.

During my college time, I hung out a lot with the musicology students of University of Cologne.
www.uni-koeln.de/phil-fak/muwi/index.html
That brought me - as a member of the university choir - several times to Bella Napoli.

During this period I also did an internship at the lighting crew of the Wuppertal Opera House.

Occasional visits at the labour office
www.arbeitsagentur.de/
nourished doubts about the path of my career. Therefore, after two semesters, I moved upwards the Rhine to Duisburg, where I put up my hearth at the largest inland port of the world for seven years.
www.duisburg.de
I dedicated myself to the study of mathematics and psychology at the University of Duisburg,
www.uni-due.de/mathematik/
engaged myself extensively in students' committees,
http://inkk.uni-duisburg.de/
was student assistant with Prof. Raatz,
Emeritus now, but information is still available via the link above
and with Prof. Heineken.

Lacking in support of the student financial aid office (probably too much trial and error for their taste), money making was my occupation during the semester breaks, e.g.:
as a driver with Inter-Rent (new Europcar),
www.europcar.de
as a taxi driver,
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxi
on the coke plant of the Mannesmann tube mills,
www.mrw.de/index-flash.html
with the Andreas brewery in Hagen (at that time still independent, now apparently with the Radegerber Group, along with DAB),
www.1000getraenke.de/test_andreas_pils.htm
at Thyssen AG steel company (today ThyssenKrupp Steel), in the research department
www.thyssenkrupp-steel.com/de/
or as warehouse worker with Westfalia Hardware Mail-order
www.westfalia.de
and many other jobs more. Nevertheless my Duisburg time ended formally correct with the successful completion of the 1st final exams in education for secondary schools.
The next station was the Hanse city of Bremen, which is always worth a journey!
www.bremen-tourism.de/intro.htm
At the Highschool in Horn I completed the practical part of the teachers' training,
www.schule.bremen.de/schulen/sarp/Horn.html
which was finished by the 2nd final exams at the "Landesinstitut für Schulbildung" (in those days still called WIS: Wissenschaftliches Institut für Schulbildung).
www.lis.bremen.de
With these exams even my extended school time had finished. From 1992 to 2001 I've been operating as a freelance software advisor and programmer, see also History II.
Since 1998 I am living with my family in the countryside, in a small village near Osterholz-Scharmbeck.
www.osterholz-scharmbeck.de
At High School, I took English,

French,
www.botschaft-frankreich.de
Latin (w/ certificate),
www.lateinforum.de
and Hebrew (also w/ certificate).

At university I also took Italian. Learning Italian in Italy - the ideal form of vacation!

During further "linguistic vacations", I also got acquainted with Swedish.
